作家蔣勳在1972 年到巴黎讀書，當時在1968 年的法國巴黎所發生的五月革命學運仍未結束。從蔣勳在《孤獨六講》裡的敘述可以知道，當時革命已經成為一股風潮、一種時尚。
而這場著名的革命，正是被在同個時期發生在美國加州的學生運動所鼓舞。
五十年後的今天，在台灣也開始不斷地發生一些大大小小的遊行。我們所面對的，是否有如他們五十年前所面對的；我們所面對的，是否巨大到足以讓我們以他們所使用的方式來爭鬥；又或者我們是否能夠「把自己的身體擺在機器的後齒輪，後槓桿，和所有的儀器上，讓它停止運作 ......」
